JOHNSON CREEK, Wis. – As summer approaches and the flowers begin to bloom, Rainbow Community Care invites the community to create a lasting tribute to a loved one or friend in its 5th Annual Memorial Garden Celebration.

Located at the Rainbow Hospice Care Inpatient Center in Johnson Creek, the Memorial Garden has become a quiet sanctuary for local patients and families since it was established in 2022. The "pathway of remembrance" honors those we’ve lost and the dedicated people who care for them, including caregivers like Rainbow Palliative Care nurse practitioner Kristina Heimsch, who passed away in April 2025 following a cancer diagnosis. Her memory lives on in the garden through a beautiful fire maple tree and a memorial bench donated by her family on a nearby hill.

What began as a simple vision has grown into a space of tranquility featuring more than 200 engraved bricks, several benches, pergolas, a wind phone, a fire pit, and peaceful water features. This year, the community can help this space grow by adding new personalized features:

  • Custom Tributes: While bricks may be ordered year-round, orders must be placed by June 1, 2026, to ensure installation in time for this year’s annual ceremony. Options include personalized bricks (available in 4"x8", 9"x9", or 9"x13"), as well as larger features like composite benches, patio tables, chair sets, or a garden pergola.
  • Enhancement Fund: Donations help support ongoing improvements, including new paver pathways for easier mobility and fresh evergreen borders to provide natural privacy for patient rooms.
  • Annual Dedication Ceremony: Community members are invited to attend the formal celebration on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

“This garden is a living tribute to the people who make our community special,” said Carol Brown, President & CEO of Rainbow Community Care. “Every brick, bench, and patio set represents a connection, and we are honored to provide this space of beauty for our local patients and families to enjoy.”
