JOHNSON CREEK, WI – For individuals facing the holiday season after the death of a loved one, what is typically a time of joyous anticipation can become a time of profound difficulty. Recognizing the challenge of coping with an empty chair at the holiday table, Rainbow Community Care is offering its annual educational and memorial program, "Inviting Your Grief to the Holidays: Surviving the Holidays Without a Loved One."

The free program offers practical tips for people struggling to make it through the days and weeks ahead, providing a space to connect with others who share similar experiences of loss. Attendees will receive ideas on how to plan for the holidays and how to proactively deal with the many poignant emotions that arise during the season.

The program will take place on Thursday, November 13th, 2025, at the Rainbow Hospice Care Inpatient Center, located at 1225 Remmel Drive in Johnson Creek.

Two sessions are available for the public to attend: 1:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m.

Each session features several readings and music incorporated throughout to support reflection. A moving candle lighting memorial service also offers attendees a sacred space to grieve, remember, and honor those missing from their holiday celebrations. Refreshments and time for conversation will follow the program.

“The first holiday seasons after the death of a loved one are often difficult,” said Rainbow Bereavement Counselor Hilary Furnish. “The annual holiday grief event is designed to help grievers identify what they need to embrace the holidays in ways that are meaningful while grieving and to honor the memory of their loved ones.”

Attendance is free, but RSVP is required for planning purposes.

Please RSVP by calling (920) 674-6255 no later than Tuesday, November 11th, and specify which session you plan to attend.

A free booklet titled Grief and the Holidays: Experiencing the Holidays and Special Occasions Without a Loved One, will be available at the event. If you are unable to attend but would like a copy, please call Rainbow Community Care at (920) 674-6255 to request one.
