Grief Goes to the Movies- Part 1
by Hilary Furnish
As far back as historians can go, storytelling has always been part of the human experience. What began as storytelling developed into more visually immersive experiences. From the cave paintings in Lascaux to the first film ever made, humanity has sought to tell stories in a way that draws in the audience. Through story, we connect to the shared experiences life brings. Those of adventure, heroism, love, and grief. Today, as we read a book or watch a film, it becomes easy to connect our own experiences to those of the characters. This ability to see ourselves in this story not only inspires us, but can be supportive as we grieve the loss of someone we love.
With this in mind, we would like to suggest some films that may inspire or encourage you as you navigate the difficult road of grief. These stories may provide language for things you may be feeling, encourage you, or simply provide space for your grief.
